Pitkin, Colorado was founded by Frank Curtiss, George P. Chiles and Wayne Scott in 1879. Pitkin, elevation of 9242 feet, was a stop on the old Denver South Park & Pacific Railroad. Pitkin is named for Colorado Governor Frederick W. Pitkin.
